Deepening Industry-Academia Collaboration: NUU Students Visit Micron Taiwan to Explore Career Opportunities in the Semiconductor Industry

To strengthen industry-academia collaboration and help students connect with the global semiconductor industry, National United University (NUU) Vice President Lin Pen-Hsuan led a faculty and student delegation to Micron Taiwan’s Taichung site on September 3, 2026. The delegation included Academic Affairs Dean Lin Yung-Sheng and Chair Chang Han-Wei of the Department of Chemical Engineering. Through firsthand experience and exchanges with industry professionals, students gained a better understanding of semiconductor manufacturing and expanded their career perspectives.

In his remarks, Vice President Lin emphasized that career planning should not begin only when students are approaching graduation, but should start from the first year of university. He noted that the semiconductor industry plays a key role in Taiwan’s connection to the global technology supply chain. Early participation in corporate visits and cross-disciplinary exploration can help students, especially freshmen, establish learning goals and develop essential skills at an early stage. This was also the purpose behind arranging the company visit immediately after the two-day freshman orientation program. International students from Japan also took part in the visit, highlighting NUU’s diverse and international campus environment while reflecting the semiconductor industry’s growing need for talent with cross-cultural experience.

During the visit, Huang Chih-Wei, Director of Micron Taiwan, encouraged students to build a strong foundation in their professional fields while gaining diverse practical experience during their university years. He also shared key skills needed in the workplace, emphasizing teamwork, continuous learning, and exploration across different fields. Students were encouraged to remain curious about new knowledge and develop the ability to collaborate across disciplines.

Micron Taiwan also opened its A3 facility at the Taichung Houli site for the visit. As one of Micron’s most advanced DRAM smart manufacturing facilities worldwide, the site gave students an opportunity to see automated manufacturing in action. At the A3 Showroom, students observed OHT (Overhead Hoist Transport) systems operating in an automated cleanroom environment and learned more about High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) technology, which plays an important role in the development of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. The experience allowed students to gain a closer look at how advanced memory technologies are applied in emerging technologies.

Students who participated in the visit said they gained valuable insights from the experience. In addition to developing a clearer understanding of advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes and automated OHT systems, they found the sharing from Director Huang and the Micron Taiwan team, along with Vice President Lin’s advice on early career planning, helpful in shaping their future learning goals and career plans.

The “2026 Micron Taiwan × NUU Career Visit” concluded with meaningful exchanges between the university and industry. NUU will continue to expand collaboration with Micron Taiwan and other leading international companies, providing students with more opportunities to connect with industry and preparing them with the global perspective and essential skills needed for careers in the technology sector.
