Academic Research

Our university adheres to the interdisciplinary integration concept and promotes integrated group research projects, as well as interdisciplinary joint research laboratories and college-level research centers. We encourage innovation and integrated research to enhance academic competitiveness. Furthermore, we encourage faculty members to actively participate in industry-academia collaboration projects with government agencies or private enterprises, assisting in national industrial development and enhancing the outcomes of industry-academia collaboration. We strive to foster active collaborations between the university and various government departments, corporate entities, and businesses. We have comprehensive regulations in place to encourage faculty members to engage in research and publish their research findings. Additionally, we recognize and reward faculty members for their outstanding research performance.

In addition to the formal teaching and research units, our university also has research centers with a focus on sustainability. Currently, there are six university -level research centers: Glass Optical Materials Research Center, Creative and Interdisciplinary Design Research Center, Design and Brand Research Center, Intelligent Green Energy Research Center, Research and Development Center of Long-Term Care and Digital Service, and Center for Chemical Hazards and Environmental Health Risk Research. There are also three college-level research centers: Hazard Mitigation and Reduction Research Center, Center of Environmental Education and Sustainable Development, and Miao-Li Area Research Center. These research centers integrate internal resources, enhance the research capability of the university, and develop the key research characteristics. To strengthen the development of medium and long-term plans and deepen our characteristics, starting from the 2021, our university has implemented key development plans with five main thematic axes: (1) Smart Management, (2) Sustainable Environment, (3) Regional Industries, (4) Local Culture, and (5) Innovative Design.

To enhance the academic and research status of our university, we aim to create distinctive research features and improve the teaching and learning environment, even with limited resources. This will enable our faculty's research capabilities to be rapidly enhanced through collaborative and interdisciplinary cooperation, as well as resource allocation. In this way, we can establish specialized laboratories in relevant fields.
